How the Gold Price in Pakistan Works
Pakistan does not mine the gold it sells, so the local rate follows two things: the international spot price of gold (in US dollars per troy ounce) and the rupee's exchange rate against the dollar. When either one rises, the per tola rate in Pakistan rises the same day. The All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA) announces the official closing benchmark, and sarafa bazaars from Karachi to Peshawar trade around it.
